North Line Repair is almost completed…
The North Line repair is almost complete. When the concrete is dry, we will turn on the water and flush the system to clear out dirt that may have accumulated during the repair.
After the system is flushed, another email will be sent notifying you that the water is available to use. We anticipate having water later this evening.
Breaks & Repairs
It all begins with an idea.
Little Cottonwood Road Repair
The temporary repair to the break in Little Cottonwood Rd did not hold and another leak was temporarily patched today. The entire system was shut down at our intake in order to make the repair again.
Water was restored for the South & Central Lines by 10:00 PM.
North Line Repair
The North Line is still off until the part comes in and can be repaired.
Regarding the Shutdown
We regret to report that our north line is closed for repairs.
A critical part has failed simply because it is old (40 years old), it has rusted, and it must be replaced. The failed part is a fitting for our 14” line, which is difficult to find, has been located, and is being expedited, and is expected on Wednesday (July 23) or Thursday (July 24), we expect to complete the repairs on Thursday or Friday, and we hope to restore service on Friday or Saturday.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Sincerely,
Michael Galieti, President
Little Cottonwood & North Line Breaks
A Blast from the Past
Service was shut down, and the system was drained to assess the cause of a break on Little Cottonwood Road on Saturday, July 19, 2025. The break was attributed to a failed air relief valve.
The valve appears to be an original!

Little Cottonwood Road Break
A break in Little Cottonwood Road occurred today. The system was shut down to determine the cause. It was determined that an original air flush valve failed. Service to the South & Central Lines was restored following the temporary repair.
North Line Break
Another break also occurred on the North Line. The break requires a specialized part to be shipped to us for the repair. Unfortunately, it is estimated that the North Line will be without service until Saturday, July 26, 2025.
End of Water Season
South Despain Ditch Company - - Shareholders
As previously reported, last week, we did deliver secondary water to all qualified shareholders through Tuesday, October 15, 2024.
However, in cooperation with the Little Cottonwood Creek Commissioners, we are postponing the flushing of our system pipes until next spring. There simply is not enough water in Little Cottonwood Creek to do the work as we had planned—it has been a very dry fall.
It will not be necessary to close your valves as had been recommended because there will be no backflow due to flushing. You may prepare your system for the winter freeze at your convenience.
Your South Despain Ditch Company Board of Directors is apologetic for this necessary change of plans. We will communicate in the spring about the flushing project prior to the start of our 2025 Irrigation Season.
Also, as previously noted, the fall assessment will be $130 per share. These assessment notices are being prepared and will be distributed by US Mail within the next week.
Thank you!

Heavy Run-off & Debris
Due to the peak run-off in Little Cottonwood Creek, some users are experiencing debris clogging their filters. We are experimenting with better filtering methods at our weir and expect this issue to pass in a few days.
In the meantime, if you are experiencing decreased pressure, be sure to check your filters and make sure they are clean.
